The Twilight of my Idols.

Tue Sep 19, 2006, 10:18 PM
There comes a time when the sparkling jewels of resentment "lose their lustre," where the black fires of hate flicker in the deeper wells of darkness, unble to sustain their burning. Where ego, contempt, and simple rejection shed the offals of loathing.

Nietzsche wrote oft of the need to overcome resentiment. Overcome being the key word. One must wade the mire to overcome it. No dry knowledge, eaten secondhand will do. Only the full baptism, soiled by foetid waters will do. Only then can you see the cracks in your idols, watch them shatter and crumble.

The faerylands of "beauty" and "love" have faded into their twilight, and what remains is the human. Nietzsche spoke too in his final works of the small things as the only things in life that matter. I have known this for a long time, but I did not finally begin to understand it until now. The idols blocked my way. It is not that the minutae of life should be deified or even become a passion, but only that there is nothing else that is real.

It appears that metal is getting the attention or recognition it deserves, on this one article, they highlight Mastodon's Leviathan(?) and Nile's CD's because they are based on literature and mythology... I feel like checking out Cattle Decapitation's new CD too. The article was on CNN , by the way, fooey.
